Alejandro Vélez Salas

Alejandro Vélez Salas is Vice President of the Impacto Social Metropolitan Group Team. Previously, from 2014 to 2016, he was a visiting professor at the language faculty of the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM). He has also previously coordinated the master’s in surveillance privacy and technology at the University of Girona; been Editor in Chief of the website for Nuestra Aparente Rendición, where he edited the book Tú y yo coincidimos en la noche terrible on journalists who have been killed or disappeared in Mexico; and served as part of the Mexican Forensic Anthropology Team.

Dr. Vélez Salas has a PhD in humanities from the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona, Spain. He did a postdoctoral fellowship at the social psychology faculty of the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana in Mexico City.

El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras have long histories of emigration, but are seeing increasing transit and return migration as well. This report explores the stories told within these three countries about migration in all its forms, how these narratives intersect with (and at times, contradict) each other, and how they influence policy decisions and public opinion.
