Dirk Gebhardt

Dirk Gebhardt is a Marie Curie researcher at GRITIM-Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona. His research focuses on the role of European cities in developing and implementing integration policy. Prior to this fellowship, he was policy advisor on immigration and social issues at EUROCITIES, the network of major European cities in Brussels.

He holds a PhD in geography from Humboldt University, Berlin. His research interests include the interplay between urban development, migration, and local citizenship.

As the initial point of contact for most immigrants, cities see firsthand how both local and national policies affect newcomers and minorities. This report explores the steps cities across Europe are taking to be more inclusive of immigrants and minorities and how these efforts relate to national policies.
