Hannes Einsporn

Hannes Einsporn is a Senior Project Manager for Migration at the Robert Bosch Stiftung and leads the foundation’s work on the future of refugee and migrant protection and on climate change and human mobility. His expertise includes international refugee policy, climate migration, and international human rights and refugee law.

Prior to joining the foundation, Mr. Einsporn worked for several years in humanitarian and development aid, mainly in the Middle East, including with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Iran and with CARE on Iraq.

A social scientist, Mr. Einsporn holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the Free University of Berlin and a master’s degree in refugee and forced migration studies from the University of Oxford.

The 2023 Global Refugee Forum will test whether global solidarity for refugees and their hosts can be revived as the political environment cools in many countries. With responses to major displacement crises since 2019 largely taking place outside forum and Global Compact on Refugees processes, preserving the relevance of the forum and the compact will require going beyond counting pledges in Geneva, as this commentary explains.
