Jeanette Süss

Jeanette Süss was a researcher in the Research Unit of the Expert Council of German Foundations on Integration and Migration (SVR) in 2018-19, and also has been associated with Freie Universität Berlin, the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung, and the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes.

She obtained a bachelor's degree in political science and French Romance studies from the Universität Tübingen and Aix-Marseille Université, and a master of arts from Sciences Po Paris / FU Berlin, with her master's thesis focusing on the interaction between EU Member States and EU institutions with individual Maghreb states over migration policy.

As EU Member States struggle to deliver on the European Union's call to expand channels for foreign workers, they should focus more on attracting the middle- and low-skilled third-country nationals needed by the labor market yet for whom few opportunities for admission exist. They also would do well to consider their migration policies in light of labor market, foreign policy, and development objectives, rather than as a means to reduce irregular migration, this report cautions.
