MPI Board of Trustees Approves New Members with Distinguished Experience in Government, Private Sector & Law

WASHINGTON – The Migration Policy Institute (MPI) Board of Trustees has elected four new trustees to the board, selecting candidates with distinguished track records in policy, diplomacy, business and law in North America and Europe. The four, who were formally approved at the June 17 board meeting, will join the board next January.

The new trustees are:

  • Roberta Jacobson, who was U.S. Ambassador to Mexico (2016-18), and whose diplomatic career included serving as Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs; Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Canada, Mexico and NAFTA; Director of the State Department’s Office of Mexican Affairs; and Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Peru. She is a Senior Advisor at Albright Stonebridge Group.
  • Cecilia Malmström, who served as European Commissioner for Home Affairs (2010-14) and later as European Commissioner for Trade (2014-19). Prior to those appointments, she was Swedish Minister for European Union Affairs and a Member of the European Parliament. She is the Assar Gabrielsson Visiting Professor at the University of Gothenburg’s School of Business, Economics and Law.
  • Jose Luis Prado, who is Chairman of Tropicale Foods, a leading manufacturer of frozen novelty products under the Helados Mexico brand, and former Chairman and CEO of Evans Food Group Ltd. Prior to joining Evans, he was President of Quaker Foods North America, a division of PepsiCo, where he began his career and where his roles included serving as President and CEO of Grupo Gamesa-Quaker, Regional Vice President of the Frito Lay International Andean Region, President of PepsiCo Snacks in Argentina and President of Frito Lay Snacks Caribbean.
  • Cristina Rodríguez, who is the Leighton Homer Surbeck Professor of Law at Yale Law School. A former U.S. Supreme Court law clerk and Rhodes Scholar, she joined Yale Law School in 2013 after serving for two years as Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Office of Legal Counsel at the U.S. Department of Justice. An immigration law expert previously on the faculty at the New York University School of Law, she also has been a Visiting Professor of Law at Stanford, Harvard and Columbia. In April, she was elected as a Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

“We are delighted to welcome these distinguished individuals to our board. We are confident that their extraordinary accomplishments and breadth and depth of experience will prove invaluable to MPI and our Board of Trustees,” said James W. Ziglar, who chairs the board and is former Commissioner of the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service.

Said MPI President Andrew Selee: “We are delighted that Ambassador Jacobson, Commissioner Malmström, Chairman Prado and Professor Rodriguez are joining our board, and we are certain their experiences and insights will be important as we guide MPI in the years ahead.”
